If someone came visiting Marbella for the first time and asked me how they should spend their days here I would have a few suggestions. Something I like doing is to go to the beach, lie on the sand or sink into a comfy chair at a cosy chiringuito (beach bar). The wonderful beaches with their relaxed beach front hangout spots serve delicious Spanish food and refreshing drinks. I have many favourite spots in Marbella town, Puerto Banús and San Pedro.Â
Stroll up to the Plaza de los Naranjos in the heart of the old town of Marbella. Enjoy the scent of orange blossom and sit at one of the many traditional outdoor seating areas found on the narrow streets with whitewashed houses covered in colorful flower pots. You will feel that you are in the real Andalusia. If you start feeling peckish, there are many culinary experiences to explore. One of my personal favourites is a small tapas restaurant, El Estrecho. The name means “narrow” or “slim”, which is probably because the restaurant is in an alley that is only one metre wide. They serve fantastic, well-prepared food together with a bottle of house red. It can be yours for less than 10 Euros. Spend time on the stunning waterfront promenade, which runs about 10 km from the town of Marbella and past Puerto Banús to San Pedro. Along the walk, you will have plenty of time to admire the sand sculptures. Maybe stop off at a chiringuito for a bowl of gazpacho with deep-fried sprats or fish prepared the Andalusian way. At the 7-kilometre mark, you will reach the beaches of Nagueles and Casablanca. A little bit further on, you will cross the Rio Verde, not far from Puerto Banús.
Puerto Banús, one of the most famous parts of Marbella, is well worth visiting. This is the playground of the rich and famous, where the whole world arrives to enjoy the beaches, the beach-front clubs and the lively nightlife. Here you will find many exclusive designer boutiques, and it is THE place for celebrity spotting. Not long ago, I passed Lady Gaga when I went out for a run. Situated just above Puerto Banús, Nueva Andalucia, is where I decided to buy a second home. This area is beautiful and relaxed. I love having everything within easy reach with the vast range of facilities and services near. Among many local favourite food hangout is Planet Beat, which serves the most amazing Mexican food. visiting-marbella-for-the-first-time
