The Costa del Sol is a relatively large area stretching from Nerja in the east almost as far as Sotogrande in the west. Its 170-kilometre long coastline is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world.
How about buying a villa with own pool in Nerja?[/caption]
The Costa del Sol’s many resorts are varied to say the least, with everything from quiet mountain villages and small fishing communities to sprawling and luxurious urbanisations, beach resorts, and party areas. You can find everything from calm living relaxing by your own pool to lively partyn at the beach. Yet there is one thing that they all have in common – as the Costa del Sol’s name suggests – the ever-shining sun.
So… Like many other people, you’ve fallen in love with the Costa del Sol. But how do you choose what areas to focus on?
I recommend renting a car and driving around the different areas to truly experience them. The proof of the pudding is in the eating – so the saying goes – so try a variety of places to fully appreciate what they have to offer. You could even stay a night or two during the off-peak season when prices in most places are more reasonable.
MiMove has a Lifestyle Search that offers a fun first step in learning about the different areas along the coast.
If you are really into golf and marina life, you should put the sliders to the right in the Lifestyle search in order to find the best areas for you. Are you more into shopping and culture, then put the sliders to the right for these choices.
I started by making a simple Excel sheet where I wrote down the criteria that were important for our family. I weighted the variables according to their importance in my final assessment. In our case our most important criteria were child friendliness, and being within walking distance of amenities and the beach. I ranked the areas we shortlisted, and then the apartments and houses we found in those areas. Everyone is different. Most go by their gut feeling, whereas I preferred to combine my feelings with the scores of our template.
Some areas are more popular and more expensive than others. It’s true that you get what you pay for, but getting a bargain isn’t out of the question by any means. It’s a buyer’s market right now in that there are more properties than buyers. Although it won’t be like this forever, this does put buyers in a strong position at the moment.
